This was our early Valentine gift on Feb. 2nd,
while on a trip to Atlanta. We stopped at
The Whistle Stop Cafe in Juliette, Georgia.
They were delicious, just as I suspected.
We were nearly blasted out of our seats
not once, but twice,
by the train that runs right by the cafe.
So I got tickled and couldn't stop laughing.
A couple of souvenirs - some local honey
and a birdhouse :)
I think I'll paint over these words and put in
"Whistle Stop" and "Ruth" on one side,
and "Idgie" on the other :)
Can you believe it's been 20 years
since the movie came out?
I'm waiting til summer time for
some of my own fresh off the vine tomatoes
before I try to cook some of these.
Y'all have a good day!
JoAnn

Fried Green Tomatoes is my favorite movie. I never get tired of it. I think I need to make a visit to the Whistle Stop!
ReplyDeleteI never tire of it either! Do make the trip if you can. We just happened to get there at lunch time, which is apparently their main meal time. It was all SO good! But some of the little gifts shops were not open. I think things begin to "crank up" for Spring some time in March / April.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by and commenting!
How fun! I have always wanted to try fried green tomatoes. The bird house is darling.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I had always heard of folks eating them like that but somehow, I just wanted my tomatoes juicy red. But now that I've eaten FGT, that's the way I want them all the time! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteCute birdhouse, JoAnn. My dad used to eat fried green tomatoes, my mother made them for him.

Yes ma'am, it was indeed! I wish every day could be like that, with a big plate of FGT ;)
DeleteI would love to go there. Can't believe that has been out for twenty years. I know I have seen it at least 20 times. Next time I make it south, that will be on the list, until then I guess I will have to wait for summer and make my own. Thanks for sharing!

I know, it's turned into a classic for me. My husband bought the DVD for me recently, and yes I still boo-hoo every time :) thanks for stopping by! Have a great Friday.
Deletei love the birdhouse. good job with the honey purchase! people have picked up on the fact that we love honey and we currently have 3 big jars that came our way as gifts.
ReplyDeleteIt's really good! And honey just isn't any honey, it does have a different taste per locality of the beehives. Nature's way is good ;)
